Dog Kennels and Boarding Facilities

Boca Raton, Fl – Like their human counterparts on athletic fields and playgrounds, a growing number of pets are playing better with the help of synthetic turf surfaces. The Synthetic Turf Council reports that nationwide, leading dog parks, Dog Kennels, day camps, training facilities and Dog hotels have installed synthetic grass to provide a better experience for Fido that also benefits the environment.
“Pet turf is a rapidly expanding sector of the synthetic turf landscape market,” noted Synthetic Turf Council President Rick Doyle. “Engineered specifically for the needs of dogs, pet turf includes significant advances such as instantaneous drainage, simplification of waste removal, odor control and more that make it an especially versatile option for Kennels and Dog Boarding facilities.”
Benefiting the Environment
Collectively, the use of synthetic turf across the country saves billions of gallons of water each year. Pet facilities with the surface are being recognized for their environmental stewardship, like the Animal Community Center in Silicon Valley in Silicon Valley. It recently became the first Humane Society facility in America to achieve Gold Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) project from the U.S. Green Building Council. The installation of 30,000 square feet of synthetic turf from Heavenly Greens significantly contributed to the facility’s certification, as it eliminated the need for lawn fertilizers, reduced water consumption and enhanced sanitation.
Supporting Constant Play
Running, playing fetch and jumping by even one large dog can take its toll on grass. As a dog day camp, dozens of dogs use a play space throughout the day, seven days a week. Just ask ForeverLawn, who has served intense usage facilities like the Central Park Dog Park in Fremont, Calif., a 40,000 square foot dog park that is the largest of its kind in the country. When other parks are closing down during the winter months for maintenance, or sending dogs back to their cars covered in dirt and mud, the synthetic grass at Central Park Dog Park allows it to remain open, and mud-free, regardless of the weather. Conveniently located adjacent to Chicago’s O’Hare Airport, Paradise 4 Paws offers 24-hour access and often cares for the pets of busy business travelers. With its large indoor synthetic turf play area is packed both day and night, the dense construction of synthetic blades supports the demands of pets’ intense play.
Combining Surf and Turf
Lounging by the pool takes on a new meaning when your puppy can enjoy state-of-the-art play areas made safer and more sanitary with synthetic grass. Splash pads and pools are proving to encourage longer and more creative play among dogs without the muddy mess, such as the one at Morris Animal Inn in Morristown, NJ. It features a pool surrounded by specially designed synthetic turf as well as a whirlpool with eight adjustable jets. The turf drains excess water from the pool as well as animal urine, keeping the area as clean as possible.

Conserves over three billion gallons of water. Water is one of our most precious resources. More than 6,000 synthetic turf fields are currently being used in the United States, with each full-sized field saving between 500,000 to 1,000,000 gallons plus of water each year. During 2010, that meant at least three billion gallons of water, and perhaps as much as six billion or more, was saved through the use of synthetic turf fields. Our Synthetic Grass eliminates the need to water lawns. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), over one-third of residential water is used for lawn irrigation nationwide, totaling more than 4 billion gallons of water a day. The Southern Nevada Water Authority also estimates that every square foot of grass replaced with synthetic turf saves an additional 55 gallons of water per year. Therefore, an average lawn of 1,800 square feet will save 99,000 gallons of water a year if landscaped with synthetic turf – about 70% of a homeowner’s water bill, or up to $500. Eradicates the use of almost a billion pounds of pesticides and fertilizers. The EPA has identified runoff of toxic pesticides and fertilizers as a principal cause of water pollution. In Florida alone, the EPA estimates that about 1,000 miles of rivers and streams, 350,000 acres of lakes and 900 square miles of estuaries are impaired by runoff of pesticides and fertilizers. Synthetic turf eliminates the need for nearly a billion pounds of harmful pesticides, fertilizers, fungicides and herbicides which are used to maintain grass. Depending on field usage, synthetic turf can lower consumption of energy, raw materials and solid waste generation. BASF Corporation performed an Eco-Efficiency Analysis measuring environmental and economical impacts of synthetic turf athletic fields with professionally installed and maintained grass alternatives. According to BASF, among the major findings of the study was that the average life cycle costs over 20 years of a natural grass field are 15 percent higher than the synthetic turf alternatives, even  when factoring in a replacement synthetic turf field during that time. Released in November 2010, the life cycle assessment found that with typical field usage, synthetic turf had a lower consumption of energy, raw materials and solid waste generation than natural grass fields. BASF’s eco-efficiency analysis is an award-winning and strategic tool, based on the ISO 14040 standard for lifecycle analysis, which quantifies the sustainability of products or processes. Great for Day Care and Children Centers, Sports Fields, (Baseball, Football, Soccer and General Sports Fields), Golf Courses, Driving Ranges and Landscaping (Residential and Commercial) Then please feel free to contact me so we can schedule a time to meet and discuss with you specific details of our products and how they can be beneficial to your business success.

Parks and Playgrounds Use Synthetic Grass to Increase Activity Levels for Preschoolers

ATLANTA, GA – While the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children under five play outside as much as possible, an April 2012 study led by Seattle Children’s Research Institute found that nearly half of U. S. preschoolers did not have even one parent-supervised outdoor play opportunity per day. Recognizing that the lack of convenient outdoor spaces contributes to this trend, a growing number of parks and preschools are choosing synthetic grass for their playgrounds to allow more opportunities for young kids to be active.
“According to the Centers for Disease Control, obesity rates among children younger than five have doubled over the last two decades,” said Rick Doyle, President of the Synthetic Turf Council. “Synthetic grass playgrounds offer safe, resilient and accessible surfaces that can be used by kids year-round to increase physical activity levels.”
New synthetic grass playgrounds nationwide have reclaimed previously unusable spaces for the benefit of the community. Cumberland Park in Nashville, Tennessee was built on a former brown field industrial site adjacent to the Cumberland River reclaimed by park planners working closely with the Environmental Protection Agency and state environmental officials. With more than one million visitors expected annually, officials decided to install synthetic grass from ForeverLawn in heavy activity areas such as playgrounds and a climbing wall because of its durability, the option to incorporate safety features and ability to conserve water.
The City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department in Nevada manages aquatics and recreation centers and boasts 54 neighborhood and community parks. However soaring summer temperatures caused cracks, separations, peeling and fading in the poured-in-place rubber surfaces used in the playgrounds. They turned to SYNLawn to replace dilapidated rubber surfaces in five parks with synthetic grass, create more attractive, safer play areas for young children and kids of all ages. Daycare facilities have also recognized the benefits of synthetic grass playgrounds, like Home Depot’s Early Childhood Development Center at its corporate offices in Atlanta, Georgia. Located at the base of a steep grade, the unique playground from ForeverLawn features synthetic grass hills and valleys and even a lazy river defined by the winding blue turf. Special padding under the turf creates fall safety zones and the entire playground is ADA accessible.

Growing Number of Homeowners Turn to Synthetic Grass to Save Time, Money and Conserve Resources

Miami, FL – With the U.S. Census Bureau estimating that homeowners spend an average of 2.8 hours weekly on lawn maintenance and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency stating that landscape irrigation accounts for almost one-third of all residential water usage, a growing number of consumers are turning to synthetic grass for their yards to save time, money and conserve millions of gallons of water each year.

“Today’s synthetic grass is engineered and tested to be a beautiful, safe, cost-effective and eco-friendly landscape solution for many residential uses,” said Rick Doyle, President of the Synthetic Turf Council. “Often available in many styles that replicate all of the common landscape grasses, we have seen some really creative applications by homeowners, municipalities, parks departments and homeowner associations nationwide.”
Synthetic grass has become a popular solution in places where living grass can’t grow or be effectively maintained. Just ask the Germantown, Maryland homeowner whose grass would not grow despite sodding the yard three times. As a result, the backyard turned to mud every time it rained. A local Synthetic Turf Company stepped in and installed 2,500 sq ft of synthetic grass over the steeply sloped and terraced surface that eliminated the mud problem and created for the first time a lush, green, grass-like yard. In coastal New York, a homeowner with a water front property was experiencing numerous issues. Storms blew salt water onto the lawn killing the grass, geese fed on insects in the lawn creating unsanitary conditions, and thick clay soil caused drainage problems after heavy rains. When a manufacturer of the product installed over 17,000 square feet of synthetic grass, sizable maintenance costs were eliminated, drainage improved significantly and the geese droppings problem disappeared.
Homeowners are also using synthetic grass to create unique backyard retreats. In Boca Raton, Florida, Synthetic lawns of Florida created an outdoor, chess board design using synthetic grass for a wedding to magnify the bride’s design. Short-game golf guru and coach Dave Pelz worked with other companies to transform the rocky terrain around his new home in the foothills of Austin, Texas into scale replicas of famous golf greens like the 12th at Augusta National and the 14th at Pebble Beach. The state-of-the-art synthetic grass covering a 2.5 acre area has created an ideal environment for his students to practice pitching, chipping and putting.
Sometimes synthetic grass is being used inside the home for unique décor applications. When the popular TV program Extreme Makeover: Home Edition needed synthetic grass for an episode in Beaufort, South Carolina, a local synthetic turf company was happy to oblige. To brighten a child’s bedroom, the designers carpeted the area with a unique synthetic grass design as part of an overall street-themed, skateboarding design.
The Southern Nevada Water Authority estimates that every square foot of natural grass replaced saves 55 gallons of water per year. If an average lawn is 1,800 square feet, then Las Vegas homeowners with synthetic grass can save 99,000 gallons of water each year. Recognizing the water conservation qualities of synthetic grass, the Simi Valley City Council passed an ordinance specifically allowing the owners of single-family homes to use synthetic grass as a landscape solution in their front yards.
STC members calculate that synthetic grass can return the initial investment in two to four years, depending on the region of the country. A growing number of municipalities, particularly those in drought-stricken areas and where water is scarce like the Central Basin Municipal Water District in southeast Los Angeles County, also offer tax credits and rebates to encourage the use of water-saving landscape, including synthetic grass.
